WATERSCAPES by Robert Amirault OSA, CSPWC
For the last few years, Mona and I were pleased to spend the winter with our son, Mark, who lives in the South West Florida coast. One day while sitting on a beach, under an umbrella, watching the rolling surf on the Gulf of Mexico, listening to our children and their friends playing bocce ball, I was pondering what subjects would I start painting on our return to Canada.
It suddenly dawned on me that it was right before my eyes…waves… waterscapes, one of my all time favourite subjects. Living in Ontario for decades, I actively painted the scenery that surrounded me…the beauty of the Southern part of the province, but being from Nova Scotia I never stopped painting waterscapes…. rocks and water…. but mostly for my own pleasure.
After a refreshing holiday in warmer weather I returned to my home studio and started a series of oil paintings of waterscapes, small and large, to recreate the beauty and drama I saw in Florida and along the many shorelines I had found in the Maritimes and Ontario in Canada, the East and West coasts of the United States and many of the islands of The Caribbean. Before long I had created ‘a sizeable body of work’ that I was pleased with, that represented in paint on canvas what I had seen.
Robert is a self-directed artist who paints in a representational style. He is a member of The Ontario Society of Artists and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolours.
