DESCRIPTION:Art Workshop with Sam Paonessa \nImpressionistic Landscape & Plein Air Opportunity \nArt Workshop with Sam Paonessa \nImpressionistic Landscape & Plein Air Opportunity \nSam Panonessa\nSam has recently returned from a painting tour of Tuscany. Enjoy the day enlightened by his new inspirations. \nThe workshop will start out with a short demo\, followed by a question and answer session. The rest of the day will be spent painting outdoors on the charming property of Mount Mary retreat\, with one-on-one instruction surrounded by scenic woods\, rolling grass hills\, hidden ponds and forest trails. Instruction will address painting principles such as tone\, colour\, form\, texture and composition. Demonstrations\, individual attention and encouragement will increase the student’s creative confidence and style\, while being briefly introduced to painting essentials including composition\, perspective\, landmark representation\, brush techniques\, colour mixing\, contrast and sense of depth. Students can choose to paint in either oils or acrylics. \nThis workshop is for the artist with some painting experience. Some review of the basic principles of painting will be covered while various techniques are suggested and explored. DESCRIPTION:WATERSCAPES by Robert Amirault OSA\, CSPWC \nFor the last few years\, Mona and I were pleased to spend the winter with our son\, Mark\, who lives in the South West Florida coast. One day while sitting on a beach\, under an umbrella\, watching the rolling surf on the Gulf of Mexico\, listening to our children and their friends playing bocce ball\, I was pondering what subjects would I start painting on our return to Canada. \nIt suddenly dawned on me that it was right before my eyes…waves… waterscapes\, one of my all time favourite subjects. Living in Ontario for decades\, I actively painted the scenery that surrounded me…the beauty of the Southern part of the province\, but being from Nova Scotia I never stopped painting waterscapes…. rocks and water…. but mostly for my own pleasure. \nRobert Amirault Plein Air\nAfter a refreshing holiday in warmer weather I returned to my home studio and started a series of oil paintings of waterscapes\, small and large\, to recreate the beauty and drama I saw in Florida and along the many shorelines I had found in the Maritimes and Ontario in Canada\, the East and West coasts of the United States and many of the islands of The Caribbean. Before long I had created ‘a sizeable body of work’ that I was pleased with\, that represented in paint on canvas what I had seen. \nRobert is a self-directed artist who paints in a representational style. Many of the Impressionists\, including Monet\, Pissaro and Renoir\, advocated plein air painting\, and a lot of their work was painted outside. The traditional medium of plein air painting was oils. Some of the small field studies done by the plein air artists were then used in the studio\, where they were enlarged onto big canvasses. \nCome and meet Ann Willsie\, a contemporary impressionistic artist from Kelowna\, B.C.\, and watch as she works through a painting in oils en plein air. This event will take place\, weather permitting\, across the street from Creations Art Gallery.
