A Historic Partnership with Creations Art Gallery

When Maya Eventov immigrated to Canada, Creations Art Gallery in Ancaster immediately recognized her visionary talent. We are incredibly proud to have been the very first gallery in North America to carry her artwork. For over three decades, we have been a foundational partner in her artistic development, watching her evolve from a newly arrived talent into a global commercial powerhouse.
Our deeply rooted relationship with the artist is defined by two major historical milestones that establish our gallery as the ultimate authority on her work:
- 1990
First North American Showing: Creations Art Gallery in Ancaster proudly hosted Maya Eventov's inaugural exhibition, making us the very first gallery on the continent to introduce her work to the Western market. At this early stage in her career, Maya was working primarily in delicate oils and watercolours, laying the masterful foundation for the revolutionary dimensional style she is known for today.
- 2015
The Eventov Gallery Opening: To celebrate 25 years of continuous representation and her explosive international success, we unveiled a dedicated, permanent Eventov Gallery space within Creations Art Gallery—cementing our status as the definitive home for her breathtaking masterpieces.
Because of this unbroken, decades-long relationship, Creations Art Gallery is uniquely positioned to offer our collectors unparalleled expertise, first access to her newest collections, and the most comprehensive selection of her highly sought-after original canvases.
Artistic Foundations & Academic Pedigree
Born in 1964 in Leningrad (St. Petersburg), Eventov’s artistic vision was forged behind the Iron Curtain. While growing up in an era of strict state control over cultural production, young Maya found a sanctuary of unrestricted colour at the State Hermitage Museum and the Russian Museum. Spending weekends wandering their gilded halls with her mother, she absorbed the emotive palettes of Post-Impressionists like Matisse, Gauguin, and Renoir.
Her resulting aesthetic represents a sophisticated, intellectual dialogue between two major art movements: the vibrant colour theory of the Post-Impressionists and the structural, geometric discipline of the Russian Avant-Garde (Rodchenko, Lissitzky, Malevich).
Recognized early for her immense talent, she began her formal training at age six. In 1987, she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Graphic Art from the prestigious St. Petersburg State Academy of Industrial and Applied Art (historically known as the Mukhina Academy). Before immigrating, she honed her ability to work on a monumental scale by illustrating books and creating massive public murals for entertainment venues—a foundational experience that perfectly prepared her for the oversized, imposing original canvases she creates today.
The Canadian Rebirth & The Transnational Birch Tree
Maya immigrated to Canada in 1990, an experience that served as the ultimate catalyst for her mature stylistic evolution. Escaping a Soviet art scene that often demanded melancholic and "tormented" themes, she experienced a profound psychological and artistic rebirth in North America. Surrounded by a happy, secure life and a growing family—which now includes grandchildren who bring new joy to her work—she made a deliberate artistic choice to "weaponize joy" in her art.
Immersed in an unfamiliar country, she found a powerful visual anchor in the wilderness: the birch tree. Deeply embedded in the natural topographies of both her Russian homeland and the Canadian Shield, the birch forest became a transnational bridge between her past and present. Today, her signature tree-scapes are celebrated worldwide, serving as structural, geometric pillars that organize her explosive, Fauvist-inspired colours.
The Signature Technique: "Sculpture on Canvas"
Eventov’s aesthetic is immediately recognizable for its intense physical dimension, a style often referred to as a "mosaic" process. Abandoning the traditional bristle brush, she utilizes a vast, specialized arsenal of palette knives and masonry trowels.
Her highly proprietary process features unique material innovations:
- Heavy-Body Acrylic Polymers: Eventov uses fast-curing acrylic polymers rather than traditional oils, allowing her to build massive, sculptural mounds of "wet-on-wet" paint without compromising structural integrity.
- The "Extra Dimension": Because her paint sits so high off the canvas, it interacts physically with ambient room lighting. As light shifts throughout the day, the physical ridges cast dynamic micro-shadows, bringing the canvas to life with breathtaking kinetic energy.
Butterflies in Vivid Flight (Detail View) - Fabergé-Inspired "Oil Etching": Inspired by the intricate craftsmanship of Imperial Fabergé eggs she admired as a child, Eventov uses fine-tipped tools to score delicate filigree lines and microscopic details directly into the thick, wet paint before it cures.
- The Wet-Paint Finish: This highly reflective, permanent "wet paint effect" is achieved entirely through Eventov's careful choice of medium and the exceptional, professional quality of her paint—not through top-coat varnishes. Her colours remain perpetually fresh and luminous, possessing a deeply saturated, glossy "wet licorice" look that never dulls over time.
Thematic Explorations
While her application method remains consistent, Eventov's artistic vision has never stood still. Her body of work spans an expansive and ever-evolving range:
- Transcendent Birch Forests: Featuring her signature "Looking Up" perspective with towering trunks against vibrant skies.
- Vibrant Botanicals: Explosive, three-dimensional macro florals (poppies, daisies, magnolias) bursting from the canvas.
- Sculptural Butterflies (New for 2026): Combining profound colour vibrancy with extreme, tactile texture, this breathtaking new series features butterflies that look so kinetic and multi-dimensional, they appear ready to flap their wings and lift right off the canvas.
- Spectrum Landscapes & Abstraction: Modern, Fauvist-inspired chromatic configurations and pure abstract geometry.
- Mediterranean Vistas: Romantic, sun-drenched architectural escapism.
- Jazz & Figurative Abstraction: Kinetic, fractured strokes capturing the rhythm of live music and dancers.
- Sculptural Innovations: A growing series of three-dimensional standalone works extending her physical medium.
