Description

This 17th century Dutch reverse frame design features ripple, wave and basket weave ornamentation, true to the Dutch style. The inner panel of the frame features exquisite key corners which create dramatic relief on the surface of the frame. The warm, rich ebonized finish is accented by a gilded 22K gold ripple pattern on the inner lip.

Dutch Design Origin:

The Dutch were among the first people to trade in exotic woods and incorporate the beauty of natural grain patterns into decorative items; foremost was the use of ebony. They were highly influenced by a machine made patterns in the latter half of the 17th century and it was during this time that the ripple pattern, which is so often associated with Dutch style, began to be carved into this ornamental strips of exotic woods and used on various types of decorative items
