Patricia Gagic Dragon Breathing Life 40×30
Dragon Breathing Life by Patricia Karen Gagic is an original oil on canvas measuring 40″ high × 30″ wide. The dragon here is not drawn — it is felt: vast charcoal masses shoulder through the canvas while metallic gold pours between them like breath made visible, warming everything it touches. This is the darkest and most dramatic painting in Gagic’s 2026 collection, and in the right light it is also the most alive.
Original Abstract Oil Painting by Patricia Karen Gagic
A pale band of grey-lavender sky holds the top of the canvas, faintly edged with violet. Everything beneath it belongs to the dragon: ridges of black and deep charcoal built up in physical, sculptural paint, with true metallic gold flooding the gaps — catching real light and returning it, so the surface changes with every hour and every lamp. Silver-white passages break along the ridgelines like scales catching sun, and thin threads of vivid red — one curling near the upper left, more striking through the lower depths — run like sparks through the whole body of the work.
Colour, Texture, and Technique
The palette is built on black, deep charcoal, and slate grey, ignited by metallic gold and cooled by silver-white and pale lavender-grey, with vivid red threads as accents. The paint is heavily worked — scraped, stippled, and dragged — so the gold sits in the texture the way light sits in embers, and a gloss finish deepens the blacks around it. Because the gold is genuinely reflective, the painting performs differently by daylight and lamplight. It is signed in red at the lower right.
Where This Artwork Works Best
At 40″ × 30″, Dragon Breathing Life is made for rooms that welcome drama: a dining room lit for evening, a study or library, an executive office, or a living room with black and brass accents. It is extraordinary against deep-toned walls — charcoal, ink, or forest — and equally strong lifting a white wall out of politeness. For a collector of Canadian contemporary abstraction, it is the collection’s fire.
