Description

Patricia Gagic The Journey 40×36

The Journey by Patricia Karen Gagic is an original oil on canvas measuring 40″ high × 36″ wide. Everything in it moves. Across a ground of warm copper and burnt sienna, a great procession of gestures — black, grey, silver, white — climbs from the lower edge toward a break of periwinkle-blue sky, and the whole canvas leans into the ascent. If Sincerely 1 is the pause before setting out, The Journey is the road itself.

Original Abstract Oil Painting by Patricia Karen Gagic

The copper ground reads as open country — scoured, scratched, weathered by dry-brushed black. Up its centre rises the caravan: layered strokes stacked and swept like figures, banners, and dust, gathering density as they climb. White path-strokes curve through the column in long confident arcs, silver passages catch light along its flanks, and near the heart of the movement two vivid red ribbons flash — waymarks, or the moment worth remembering. At the top the sky opens: periwinkle blue brushed over the copper, with one glimpse of teal like far water, and the black mass leaning into it as though cresting a ridge.

Colour, Texture, and Technique

The palette is built on copper, burnt sienna, and tan, driven by black, grey, and silver-white and opened by periwinkle blue, a glimpse of teal, and two red ribbon accents. Gagic works fast and physically here — dry-brushed sweeps, scraped edges, scratched lines that leave the under-colour showing — then slows only for the red, laid clean and deliberate. A gloss finish deepens the copper to evening warmth. The painting is signed in red at the lower right.

Where This Artwork Works Best

At 40″ × 36″, this near-square canvas brings drive and warmth to a room — an entry that sets a tone, a stairwell landing, an office that runs on momentum, a living room with copper and wood. It thrives against warm white, clay, and grey walls, and its blue-and-copper contrast reads from far across a room. For a collector of Canadian contemporary abstraction, it is the collection in motion.
