Description

Patricia Gagic Sincerely 1 What We Carry Contemplating The Next Journey 40×30

Sincerely 1 — What We Carry Contemplating The Next Journey by Patricia Karen Gagic is an original oil on canvas measuring 40″ high × 30″ wide, the opening work of her Sincerely series — paintings composed like signed letters, each one closing an unspoken message. The first letter is about weight. At the centre of a dusk-stilled sea rides a dark, bundled mass — everything carried, strapped and creased — resting on a slab of white light like a raft. The journey has not started yet. This is the pause before it.

Original Abstract Oil Painting by Patricia Karen Gagic

The sky is a long meditation of lavender and violet-grey, thinning to a pale glow at the horizon. The sea beneath is deep slate-green, brushed in slow lateral currents that gather toward the centre. There the cargo sits: crumpled, rock-like folds of black-green paint, as physical as anything in Gagic’s 2026 collection, edged in bronze and sepia where old light catches it. Out of the bundle rise thin, wiry black lines — loops and stems drawn in single confident passes — like thoughts escaping, or the strings that once held everything together. A small note of red waits at the far right edge; the artist’s red signature answers it at the lower left.

Colour, Texture, and Technique

The palette is built on lavender, violet-grey, and slate green, weighted by black-green and sepia-bronze and lit by a white central slab with small red accents. Gagic sets soft, blended atmosphere against sharply sculptural impasto — the central mass is heavily worked, creased and scraped — and finishes with fine calligraphic line work laid over the top. A satiny surface lets the darks read as depth rather than gloom.

Where This Artwork Works Best

At 40″ × 30″, this is a painting for rooms where people actually pause — a study, a reading corner, a bedroom, a quiet office. Its dusk palette settles beautifully against grey, cream, and deep green walls, and it holds its own beside books, leather, and low warm light. For a collector of Canadian contemporary abstraction, it is the most contemplative work in the collection — and the beginning of the Sincerely story.
