Patricia Gagic Dream Catcher 40×36
Dream Catcher by Patricia Karen Gagic is an original oil on canvas measuring 40″ high × 36″ wide. The title’s image is right there in the paint: a great hoop of periwinkle blue drawn through the centre of the canvas, strung with crossing strands that catch whatever drifts through — light, colour, fragments of gold. Around it, fields of amethyst and plum churn like the night the catcher was made to guard. It is the most jewel-toned work in Gagic’s 2026 collection, and the closest to pure lyric.
Original Abstract Oil Painting by Patricia Karen Gagic
The ground is a deep, worked violet — plum and mauve marbled over amber underlayers that glint through like embers under ash. Across it the hoop swings, drawn in one confident pass of pale blue, and from its rim fall strands of lavender and white that cross and knot near the centre. Gagic lets the paint behave like weather inside the circle: black pools open in places, yellow-gold sparks flare in others, and sweeping white gestures rise along the right edge like something just released. The composition reads as capture and escape at once — what the web holds, and what slips through.
Colour, Texture, and Technique
The palette is built on amethyst, plum, mauve, and violet, cut with periwinkle blue and lavender-white and warmed from below by amber and yellow-gold. The surface is one of Gagic’s most physical: marbled and pooled underlayers, ribboned strokes that sit proud of the canvas, and a high-gloss finish that gives the whole painting the depth of stone polished to glass. The weave of the canvas shows at the margins; the painting is signed in red at the lower right.
Where This Artwork Works Best
At 40″ × 36″, Dream Catcher is nearly square, which makes it unusually easy to place: over a bed or a sofa, in a dining room, or as the single strong note in an entry. Its jewel tones deepen beautifully against white, cream, and grey walls, and its gloss surface comes alive under warm evening light. Fitting its name, it suits a bedroom wall as naturally as it holds a living room — and for a collector of Canadian contemporary abstraction it adds a rich, saturated counterpoint to cooler works.
